The top 10 happiest countries

In 2024, the report concluded that Finland is the happiest country in the world. Amazingly, six of the happiest countries are Northern European countries.

1. Finland – The people of Finland show strong feelings for communal support and mutual respect. During the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens were free to make their own choices and showed almost no suspicion of corruption in government.
2. Denmark – Denmark did exceptionally well in all six categories and even outscored Finland in GDP per capita and generosity. Denmark also scored the highest in happiness among 60-plus-year-old adults.
3. Iceland – Iceland has the highest social support. No wonder it also ranked the highest for happiness among younger adults.
4. Sweden – Sweden ranks low for happiness among the younger generation (below 30) but higher among older adults. According to the report and several other countries, the older generation is much happier than the youngsters.
5. Israel – Israel shows a lot of emotional strength and resilience. The country ranked high for the happiness of the younger people.
6. Netherlands – The Netherlands ranked high in the generosity category and has the highest GDP of the top seven.
7. Norway – Even though Norway is in seventh place, its citizens feel they are being well looked after by the government. They can enjoy universal healthcare and free college tuition.
8. Luxembourg – The economy is strong, with a high-income market, low inflation, and almost non-existent unemployment.
9. Australia – Australia's older population seems happier, as the average age is 37. Australia also has the largest median wealth for the average adult.
10. Switzerland – Switzerland may seem small, but it is densely populated with a healthy life expectancy. The citizens ranked Switzerland high for social support and generosity.
