Netflix has turned its attention to prediction markets. Instadocs: The Prediction Games is a short documentary that views prediction markets up close and personal. It premiered on 26 July 2026, a week after more than $5.6 billion was wagered on the World Cup final through Polymarket and Kalshi.

The rise of prediction markets

Prediction markets have quickly become a popular pastime among bettors, alongside sportsbooks and online casinos. What started as a financial experiment has become a cultural battleground where speculation, gambling and politics are mixed together.

The Prediction Games is the second instalment of Instadocs, Netflix's quick-turnaround documentary TV series, and it runs for under 40 minutes. But don't expect a feel-good tale.

The film also follows Emanuel Fabian, a military correspondent for The Times of Israel. After he reported an Iranian missile strike on 10 March 2026, Polymarket users sent him threats demanding he change the story, because their bets depended on it. He refused.

In the end, the film casts a light on where entertainment and manipulation blur, raising fear about how powerful players can influence the outcomes purely for profit.

The documentary received mixed reviews, with an IMDb user rating of 6.3/10 at the time of writing. Viewers enjoyed the smooth pace, but many criticised the short runtime.

Fans pointed to the fast editing, engaging interviews and a modern look that captures the energy of day-trading culture.

Critics were tougher. DeFi Rate argued the film was too short to treat anyone fairly, and Global Gaming Insider said it taught people in the industry nothing new. Others felt it barely explored the human cost of speculative addiction.
