    The Swedish software provider list continues to grow

    A new wave of software providers is granted licenses to cater to the Swedish iGaming market.

    Recently, the Swedish gaming regulator has been busy cleaning up the online casino industry and creating a safer gaming space.

    With the recent focus on online gambling, the government has been set on creating laws that will strengthen regulations on unlicensed gaming action and increase protection efforts. All to create a more sustainable gaming environment.

    With the many regulatory requirements and changes, Sweden also moved on to the next wave of software licenses.

    A new game variety is on the way

    For players at Swedish online casinos, plenty of new entertainment is on the way. The gaming regulator Spelinspektionen just handed out its next wave of supplier licenses, with nine new companies joining the previous three.

    With this new addition of 5-year licenses, impressive providers like Yggdrasil, EveryMatrix, Relax Gaming, Thunderkick, Hacksaw, and Arland Gesellschaft Fur Informationstechnologie have received the green light to enter the market.

    To date, Spelinspektionen has received 60 applications, and each application requires a SEK120,000 application fee. The objective is to shift the player focus toward the regulated sector and keep game suppliers from catering to unlicensed operators.

    A look from the outside in…

    For Thunderkick, it is an honour to be among the first to receive a license to cater to fellow Swedes, especially since it’s a home base for this software provider. The new permit will allow the game provider to start supplying games legally within the regulated Swedish gaming market from June 30th. It is a proud day for this provider to say it has jumped through all the hoops and met the requirements needed.

    Hacksaw is another provider that could not contain its delight in being among the first to meet the requirements and obtaining its full Swedish B2B gaming license.

    With the green light, the game provider can build from a position of strength and increase its efforts in the region by securing partnerships that will enable them to introduce even more players to its range of games. Already the plans are in motion as this announcement came shortly after Hacksaw’s partnership with Glitnor Group the previous month.

    EveryMatrix is another proud licensee that could not contain its joy. This is considering that online gross gaming revenue from the Swedish market was around SEK 17.1 billion in 2022. And while the new regulations bring new restrictions, it also shifts the focus to licensed operators.

    Game providers can cater to a larger audience and offer operators their modular and API iGaming solutions, content, and other services. This is what EveryMatrix had planned since before it became one of the first licensed operators within the Swedish gaming market.

    These stunning providers, along with Yggdrasil and Arland Gesellschaft Fur Informationstechnologie, are the first five to be awarded supplier licenses before the deadline.

    A regulated market in progress

    One of the main priorities of the new licensing framework is to focus on player safety and welfare and simultaneously maintain the Swedish gambling market’s integrity.

    Last year the Swedish Gaming Authority made it clear that one of the main reasons licensing of gaming providers is a requirement is to prevent any illegal gambling for player protection and responsible gambling. The region is working hard to close all possible doors to grey market opportunities.

    Now suppliers and operators must be licensed within the region to operate or cater to the market.
