A list of the best and biggest casinos in Norway, Sweden, and nearby countries to explore during your travels.

For casino players, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy quality games, whether it’s online or offline.

If you’re planning a trip to Norway or Sweden and want to visit local land-based casinos, you’ve come to the right place.

We take a look at the top land-based casinos in Norway, Sweden, and nearby surrounds.

Gaming in Sweden

In Sweden, you may find that there isn’t an overflow of options in terms of land-based casinos. You still have just one option, which is located in the capital city of Stockholm.

This casino is owned by Casino Cosmopol and is essentially a state-run monopoly.

The Casino Cosmopol Stockholm provides visitors with a great selection of games, just like online Swedish casinos offer a variety of game titles. This includes slots to blackjack, poker, and other table game variants. There are also local and national poker tournaments taking place at this casino.

UPDATE: The Swedish government is contemplating shutting down Casino Cosmopol Stockholm, the nation's last land-based casino, stating it 'will be phased out as it no longer fulfils its purpose'

The proposed amendment is set to take effect on January 1, 2026. Until further notice, Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm will continue operating as usual.

Casinos in Norway

If you’re planning a trip to Norway, it’s best to do your research and day mapping in advance. The Norwegian land-based casino action is controlled by 2 companies, Norsk Tipping and Norsk Rikstoto.

The first provides gaming action, and the latter controls all betting. Norway is still one of the stricter regions in terms of gambling regulations, and you’ll find various restrictions in place. While land-based options are not optimal, there is a great variety of online casinos in Norway you can enjoy.

It's important to note that Norwegian law prohibits land-based casinos and gambling activities unless stated otherwise.

Licensed bingo halls can only provide entertainment when all the conditions are met. You will also have access to Mutlix gaming terminals and horse-racing betting halls provided by Norsk Tipping and Norsk Rikstoto.

Where else to play?

For players in regions such as Norway, it can be frustrating to have such a limited range of options.

When you’re looking for more options to explore, there are always Norwegian online casinos. With online entertainment, you have a few more casinos to choose from and often a larger variety of games.

Alternatively, you can do a bit more travelling to visit one of the four casinos in Sweden. There’s also Denmark, where you will have six casinos you can visit. As in Sweden, the casinos are located in the major cities, which include Aalborg, Copenhagen, and Helsingor.

The largest casino, Casino Copenhagen, is located in Copenhagen with 140+ slot machines and 25 table games on offer. There are various restrictions in play at this casino when it comes to games.

For slot players, games can only be enjoyed between 02:00 pm and 04:00 am. Live table games also only run between 02:00 pm and 04:00 am. For poker cash players, tables are open from 08:15 pm until 04:00 am.

An exciting thing about Danish casinos is that they each offer the Denmark Casino Jackpot, which is a nationwide pool that flows from all the casinos. It never falls under $2 million.

With the majority of these land-based casinos, you are required to be 18 or older to gain entrance to the casino. The casinos will check ID, and anyone without a valid ID with them will not be allowed entrance into the casino.

You always have the choice to play online

It’s not always possible to travel from one area to the next. If you’re in Norway and the available land-based entertainment just isn’t doing the trick, there’s always the option to play online.

While land-based is limited, there is plenty of options for those who prefer entertainment online. Online gaming has been legal in Norway since 2012, and many online casinos cater to Norwegian players.

If you’re not sure where to play, we’ve compiled a list of top-rated online casinos available to players. These casinos have been vetted, and check all the boxes to provide a quality betting experience.

Choose your favourite online casino and play on the move while exploring the beautiful sights and experiences Norway and Sweden have to offer.
