In an effort to promote more responsible gaming, the British Gaming Council (BGC) are considering permanent changes to the License Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP), together with the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) which will have an impact on a few of your favourite casino games .
Compliance with the BGC
Award-winning game developer, Microgaming , is an active member of the (BGC) and is working with suppliers and operators to frame these new changes within the UK online casino environment. Microgaming is working towards making the following changes before 29 September 2020.
The 1st phase in the UKGC amendments require the removal of games with the following:
Remove Quickspin and Turbo Mode
Remove Spin Stop and Slam Stop
Minimum Spin Speed of 2.5 Seconds
Prohibit Multiple Gameplay on a Single Gaming Client
This, unfortunately, affects several well-known and popular Microgaming titles.
Iconic games affected
Avalon II
This iconic game features on many popular slot games list across a wide range of online casino operators. Inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, this thematic casino game offers to expand Wilds and bonus rounds that lead to large cash prizes.
Fruit Fiesta
This fruit-themed slot is one of the more classic games affected by the amendments and will be sorely missed by UK fans. Both the standard game and the 5 reel version will be removed at the end of the month in order to comply with the new regulations.
Multihand - Deuces and Joker
The amendments wipe out a large series of multi-hand poker games that include Deuces and Joker, Deuces Wild, Joker Poker, Double Joker and Tens or Better.
Given the popularity of these games, the removal will create a massive gap that will need to be filled.
Battlestar Galactica
This popular movie-themed slot will also be removed within the next few weeks in order for Microgaming to comply with the latest updates. This game followed the release of Microgaming’s Dark Knight slot and was themed around the beloved TV-series that climbed the ratings between 2002 and 2009.
A number of other Microgaming games are confirmed to be affected with games like Terminator II and Jurassic Park still awaiting confirmation of their fate.
License Conditions and Codes of Practice
The nature of online gaming is constantly changing. As such, the law and regulation around the codes of practice need to evolve and adapt too. These amendments need to take into account developments in the industry and note emerging evidence on the most effective means of promoting socially responsible gambling.
According to the Gambling Commission, there are 2 main codes of practice they require online casino regulators to adhere to.
The codes of practice are either:
Social responsibility code provisions - which must be adhered to by all licence holders; or
Ordinary code provisions – these do not have the status of licence conditions but failure to take account of them can be used as evidence in criminal or civil proceedings.
Online casinos also need to comply with all 4 licence conditions, each with their own status in the law, in order to maintain their gambling licenses .
1. General licence conditions can be applied by the Gambling Commission to an individual operating licence or a class of operating licence (for example, all betting operating licences).
2. Individual licence conditions can be applied by the Gambling Commission to an individual operating licence. They are likely to address matters concerning an individual operator and their activities.
3. Conditions imposed by the Secretary of State may be applied to a class of operating licence using statutory instruments (amendments to the law).
4. Statutory conditions imposed by the Gambling Act 2005 may be applied to a class of operating licence.
As such, the affected games listed in this phase of amendments are nowhere near finalised and we may well see further favourites affected in the future.
